Marcello Lippi resigns

Marcello Lippi, the victorious coach of the Italian National Team, has announced his resignation from the squad. This move was widely speculated and is not a major surprise.

The coach cited the scrutiny of his son and himself by the Italian media during the investigation in the Serie A soccer scandal as one of the major factors in the decision. Lippi's son, Davide, has been implicated for his work at the player agency GEA.

No immediate successor was named, however, Roberto Donadoni, former member of the National Team was mentioned as a candidate.
