The Germans secured a place in the next round as they dispatched of co-host Austria 1-0 in a closely contested match. Michael Ballack scored the lone goal for the Germans shortly after half-time. On Thursday, Germany will face Portugal, who was the winner of Group B, in a match-up of two of the pre-tournament favorites.
